This is one of the best radios I've ever had for the price range. Everything works as advertised.

My TD 3

I am very impressed with the unit overall but the 2 meter receive sensitivity is great and great audio.

Not quite 5 star yet, but it's a nice little radio.

I would like to see the option to display the battery percentage on the screen or at least have a dedicated button to hold to get the battery level. I do like the overall features but I would like to have the option to use bluetooth speaker microphones with the built in bluetooth. I mean, the bluetooth programming is nice, if not a bit tedious with a lot of channels to program. I purchased 5 of the TidRadio bluetooth speaker mics hoping by chance to use them on my H3 and H8 as well as on my android phone with ham radio and Zello apps, but that was a waste of time and money as they do not connect with the radios and they don't work on the Android Motorola moto g power 5g 2024 or any other phones that I have as far as using them as intended to be a PTT speaker mic. I can get VOX to work on Zello but it's not really a great option in noisy and public spaces. I do like the battery capacity and the USB-C charging. Also the USB-C programming is much better than digging out the K-style cable and fighting with drivers. All in all the radio is nice, small, built fairly tough, and the screen is great compared to the other brands. You will like the radio and it's a good price point for a quality radio.

I received the Tidradio TD-H3 yesterday and I am really impressed with the quality of the build as well as the signal quality on both receive and transmit. For such a small radio it is loaded with features that the more expensive radios ten to twenty times the price of this radio do not have and should serve notice to the more expensive manufacturers like Yaesu, Kenwood, Icom, and Motorola that the new radios coming out of China are a force to be reckoned with.

I love the multiple options to program the radio and really enjoy the bluetooth programming feature as it is extremely convenient to be able to program the radio in the field if needed. And the fact that they still support the programming over the standard K-connector for those who like to use Chirp is definitely appreciated.

The radio is very easy to switch from the Ham/GMRS/Normal modes for those who like to make the most out of the ability to use the different bands without having to carry multiple radios. The power levels are pretty consistent at 5 watts on high power and about 1.6 watts on low power, even on the different bands. Also having the ability to adjust the microphone gain is a huge plus. The receiver is very good and seems to be much more sensitive compared to the other cheap Chinese radios I have, which at this point numbers around 20 or so. Yes, I have an addiction and I am not afraid to admit it. I am just utterly amazed at the quality of these new radios coming out of China lately at the price point they're selling at.

One issue I am having is apparently a common issue where when I transmit on the repeater channels, there is a 2 second delay before the receiver will start receiving after the PTT is released. I have not looked into whether the firmware is the latest version yet and will be in the next few days to see if that will solve the delay issue. It is kind of a pain when talking to someone on the repeater who is a fast keyer when you might miss the first few words of each reply to your conversation. Hopefully between me and the internet we can figure it out.

I especially like the clear and colorful screen that gives you a pretty good view of what settings or functions and frequencies or channels you are using. One thing I would like to see is the precise battery voltage displayed on the screen maybe next to or below the battery level icon. I do like the power scale at the top of the screen that is a pretty good indicator of the power output you are currently set to. It would be much nicer to have a little bit thicker indicator line for the power level as the very thin red line is very hard to see and especially for the ones that need glasses to read the screen.

I would like to see the option to program the second PTT button for different features like other manufacturers have on their radios. Also, it would be nice to have the side tone feature when selecting the roger beep so that you can hear the one you are choosing without having to transmit and listen to another radio. And maybe include a few different roger beep tones with some being just a short single less annoying beep for those who use like the roger beep. Even better would be to be able to program the roger beep for individual channels so that you can use the beep on simplex frequencies and no beep on repeater channels, since most repeaters have one already.

All in all, first impressions of the H3 are very good. It is a very good implementation of a nice and small multipurpose ham/GMRS radio that has a multitude of features not usually seen on other radios from China. Some of the features could be explained a little bit better especially when you switch between the different modes of Ham/GMRS/Normal where some of the menu options are not present from one mode to the other. Also, it would be nice to have the option to switch between AM and FM when listening to the HF bands from 18Mhz and up. SSB reception would be a very nice option to have but probably a bridge too far,especially at these price points. But if you want a great little radio packed with all the features a radio nerd wants, this is the one you want. Something else to note, if you get the GMRS version you will more than likely get a UHF only antenna, so if you switch to the Ham/Normal modes you will need a dual band antenna. And since it will receive the AM airband, as well as HF bands from 18Mhz up, you should choose the right antenna for the bands you are using. That's about all I can give you for my impressions so far and I hope to find more features and functionality as time goes by. 73s and have fun!
